"A thing of beauty is a joy forever . . ."

Now playing: "Dream Time" by Tangerine Dream

Within the shadows of the deepest forest on top of the highest mountain peak, there lived a creature unlike any the world had ever seen. He had an untamed beauty and a spirit to match. Legend says he could run like the wind, or fly on its currents. His name was Pegasus.

Born of the spilled blood of the gorgon Medusa, the winged horse was a favored mount amongst the would-be heroes of Greek mythology. The most famous hero to ride him was Bellerophon, who was given a golden bridle by the goddess Athena with which to tame the creature. However Bellerophon, like so many others, grew over-ambitious and attempted to ride Pegasus to the top of Mount Olympus itself. Before he reached his destination, Zeus commanded Pegasus to throw him from the saddle, thus preventing him from reaching the sacred mountain top. This winged wonder was also credited with creating Hippocrene, the legendary fountain of the Muses, with a blow of his hoof.

To this day Pegasus is associated with poetic inspiration and imagination. But like all things wild and wonderous this magnificent creature can only be found in the minds of dreamers, flying free, still wild and untamed. His legend reminds us that there are wonderous things out there even now that deserve a moment of quiet reflection. And who knows? Perhaps one day you too will spot a form soaring through the sky that will take hold of your imagination and give it wings to fly.

Imagination! Who can sing thy force?
Or who describe the swiftness of thy course?
Soaring through the air to find the bright abode,
Th' empyreal palace of the thund'ring God
We on thy pinions can surpass the wind,
And leave the rolling universe behind . . .
